View Full Version : Music Torrents?

I'm sure this has been discussed on this forum before, but I can't find anything.
I just inherited a 60gig ipod. I put EVERY cd I own it and it only filled up MAYBE 15% of the thing (which doesn't speak much about my cd collection, but I digress...). Anyway, I'm ready to make the leap into music downloads, but every music torrent site I visit (via google), is either no longer around or not accepting new users. Anyone have any good music torrent sites that they can recommend?
I'm also open to using usenet, but Verizon took down all the alt.* directories off their news servers, so no alt.binaries.music. Any alternatives?
I would just go here:
http://torrentpond.com/index.html
There are 15 different sites to search through

I use usenet 99% of the time.
I use torrents once in a while.
Usenet / Usegroups also require a subscription to a news server, but the pron is endless, so I can't complain.

Give me an education on Torrents and Usenet. I know basically nothing. Do you need to be invited to join something like that? Pay for a service? what's the best for software, music, movies?
Do you have to open up your library to share too?
Educate me please!
Easy as 1, 2, 3
1 - Download uTorrent application - This is your client (downloader)
2 - Visit link: http://torrentpond.com/index.html
3 - Type in what you are looking for, click on the DL torrent link and there you go.
This is what I use, never any issues, is it the best way not sure - But it works.

I use isohunt.com. same deal, put in an artist, grab whole albums or complete discography. I used this quite a bit when filling my jukebox.

I'm torrent-dumb too... though having followed the above, its the same thing as kazaa back in the day.
I started DL'ing some old shit that I had on tape, but never replaced on CD and missed... I started listening to some of the songs and I'm like, wait a minute... that's not how that song starts... then I opened up the CD art and realized that it doesn't download it in order, but kinda pieces it together... I guess I need more patience...
Anyway, thanks for the tips...

Personally, before I began to DL anything from a p2p network, I would get 2 things. 1 is some type of IP blocker from the RIAA. I use Peer Guardian from Phoenix Labs. What it does is it compiles an IP list of known tracking companys and known junk uploaders and prevents them from connecting to your pc and seeing what you are DLing. 2nd, get a good anti-virus and scan EVERYTHING you DL before opening it. Cant tell you how many people I know have gotten bit by trojans they DLed thinking it was something else.

TL requires that you be a power user and have a 1.2 to 1 upload/download ratio for invites. Either that, or you pay to be a VIP member and you'll get invites.
I just read an update that says that you "may" get invites as a power user. Sounds like they have restricted most invites to VIP members.

I installed uTorrent yesterday and love it! I was using Transmission, it was very slow and buggy. It may have helped that I tweaked the port setting in my Uverse modem to help speed things up. I find the torrents on demonoid.com

Believe its above a 2 ratio to be able to have invites. I'm trying to work myself back to it. around 650gb up 330gb down. not bad for just over a year of DL from the site lol.

Got my ratio to .70 with 9.2 GB upped on Torrent Leech, so still along way to go...
